As you may or may not know; I have recently (very unsuccessfully might I add) been job hunting.
Well, I have something you should know. I am now employed. (I know right! Who in their right mind would actually employ me, a twenty-something university dropout?)
But alas, I have a job. And it’s not just any job; it’s a M&S job.
One thing you may not know, however, is that I have a tradition of name changing. A tradition upheld on my first on the job.
Every Monday night at Radio Warneford, due to a series of emails and phonecalls received, it became a tradition to be addressed by a new name every week. After already being Rick, Robert, Rocco, Henry and Harold, some of which how you confuse with Richard, I’m not quite sure; I can now add David to the list.
It’s not that I’m walking around demanding to be called David, however both myself and the rest of the staff do seem to be confusing many of the customers. My lovely little name badge (it’s not just any name badge; it’s a M&S name badge!) says ‘David’ but everyone still calls me Richard.
One day, an elderly woman will ask me a question and think she is imagining things when she asks ‘David’ but ‘David’ responds to calls of ‘Richard.’ I don’t want to be responsible for someone being put in an OAP home.
Maybe I should ask my boss to change it.
