Christmas presents can be hard to buy at the best of times, but throw in the annual work Secret Santa, and boy did it just get harder!
I always get the person I was really hoping to avoid, not because I didn’t like them on a personal level, in fact, very much the opposite, it’s just I always get the one person I can never pre-plan what to buy.
You can kind of imagine with a £5 limit, my Secret Santa presents always turn out to be pretty much the same.
Oh, look an alcoholic gift set for £4.99; it look’s expensive but it’s still under budget! (Only after purchasing it did I find out the recipient was actually only 17! Oops!)
When it comes to buying presents for family and friends I pre-plan likes there’s no tomorrow and I generally know a couple of months in advance what I’m going to buy which makes Christmas shopping so much easier, but if you give me a two-week deadline to buy a Secret Santa; I’m useless!
On the other side of the coin, I’ve received some cracking Secret Santa gifts myself.
This year I got a Frozen colouring book and some Frozen colouring pencils. (My not-so-Secret-Santa as they not-so-accidentally hinted that they’d got me) obviously knows me very well and my childlike tendencies to watch Frozen a couple of times a week.
Likewise, the majority of my actual presents last year were Frozen themed. Well, to be more specific, Olaf themed including, again, a colouring book, a cushion, a cuddly toy and a poster!
Beats socks every year!
