“Does this queue EVER end!?”
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” – unless you work in retail.
You get to hear all the office workers above you talking about how they’ve bagged two or three weeks off over Christmas and into the New Year.
You’re serving all of your old teachers and hearing how they’ve got two weeks off over Christmas and you realise you’ve only got Christmas Day off, can quickly dampen the festive spirit.
Christmas is also that time of year where you see that one customer walk in and you just say to yourself “nope, not today!” before hiding behind the tower of mince pies hoping they haven’t already seen you.
Christmas is just like every other time of the year in that there will be a small selection of products which are out of stock. Except, suddenly it’s the end of the world when the turkey sandwiches are sold out and it’s all your fault Anne from office 2 brought the last one!
And the fights over the turkeys! Retail workers all over the world will already celebrating getting theirs on their arrival in store in early December!
It’s not all bad though! I promise!
The long hours and endless days make Christmas Day even more special when you finally get to see your family after four weeks of night shifts and sleeping during the only hours the sun is out. The relief and relaxation make your first Margherita taste that little sweeter!
But the celebration when the door closes on Christmas Eve and the staff all congregate and give their best Noddy Holder impressions in unison; “IT’S CHRIIIIIISSSSSSTTTTTMMMMMAAAAAAAAS!”- there is no better feeling (except when you get that Audi on Christmas Day!)
