Unless you have been in a deep, deep sleep for the past two weeks, you will have noticed that there is a rather significant sporting event currently going on, and ultimately ending tomorrow. (The Olympics for those of you who still haven’t worked it out.)
In the run up to every Games there is an amazing journey which changes a select few people’s lives forever. Being an Olympic torchbearer is “the best feeling in the world, just seeing all of the people lined up cheering you on.”
Today I popped into Sainsbury’s for a meal deal. After eventually choosing a triple chicken sandwich (all of the chicken and bacon ones had gone), a Diet Coke and French Fries (best crisps ever!) I started to make my way out of the store, and as I did so, a shiny object made it’s way into my eye sight.
An actual Olympic Torch.
So here I am holding it in all of it’s glory (minus the gas chamber, because we don’t want a repeat of JD Wetherspoon’s being burnt down like last summer’s London riots, do we?)
I’d like to thank Torchbearer Rockie Bates (in all of the excitement I forgot to ask for her name so I had to look it up on the official London 2012 website, oops) for allowing me to hold it for a few minutes, have a look at it and have a photo.
